Do the hands free cell phone laws aply to 2 Way Radios (walkie-talkies)?
Not sure what category this question should be in, but here goes:
We were thinking of using 2 Way Radios (motorola talkabouts) for a cross-country road trip with 2 vehicles. I know that most states have hands free laws that cover cell phones, but what about walkie-talkies? I know the whole point of the laws is to minimize driving distractions, but there will be times during the trip where communication between the two drivers will be necessary. Anyone know if the Walkie Talkies are legal to use while driving?
In California, 2-way radios are allowed only if necessary for work and provided by the employer (for example, taxi drivers, ambulances, etc.)
Just get a bluetooth. That will be legal in every state.
